Job summary

Jaguar Land Rover's Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support EDU and battery production through metallurgical, chemical, and radiographic analysis. You will verify drawings, perform cleanliness tests, and produce test reports for customers, escalating issues as needed.

You'll work with metallurgical testing equipment, weld analysis, and materials evaluation, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and safety practices

Qualifications

  • Experience with materials testing equipment.
  • Experience in weld analysis (visual & metallurgical).
  • Metallurgical knowledge of steel and aluminium, including heat treatment.
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering or science discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Use metallurgical prep and test equipment to assess components per engineering specs or for diagnosis.
  • Carry out routine quality control testing for EDU and battery assembly.
  • Perform visual and metallurgical weld analysis.
  • Perform radiographic analysis of components.
  • Complete and report test results to customers, escalate issues as needed.
  • Interrogate SPC data to identify trends.

In the Manufacturing team at JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre (EPMC), you’ll help power iconic electric cars. You will be working alongside incredible technicians and leaders to drive our commitment to shape a future we truly believe in, together. This Role is required to provide Technical Support to the EPMC, related to the production of EDU and Battery. The main activities will be carrying out metallurgical, chemical and radiographic analysis on EDU, battery, frame extrusions and transmission materials, to confirm drawing specifications are met; as well as performing cleanliness testing, and analysing contaminants from this and other test points in the EPMC. As the EPMC matures, the role may also carry out scheduled spot‑audit testing on supplied parts. On completion of testing, the Role will complete test reports as required and feedback results to customers, escalating issues as necessary, and interrogating SPC data to identify trends.

  • Use metallurgical prep and test equipment to assess any component according to standard test processes, as required by Engineering specification or drawing; or to support diagnosis of a failure or non-conformance.
  • Carry out routine quality control testing for EDU and battery assembly.
  • Perform visual and metallurgical weld analysis
  • Perform radiographic analysis of components
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested
WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, there are several skills that you’ll need to have to help you succeed here, including:

  • Previous experience incorporating knowledge and practical operation of materials testing equipment.
  • Experience of weld analysis, both visually and from a metallurgical perspective.
  • Metallurgical knowledge of steel and aluminium, including heat treatment, and experience in applying this know‑how
  • Able to interpret Engineering drawings and Specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Laboratory safety practices, able to act on potential concerns
  • A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering or science discipline
