Job summary

SourceCo Recruitment Limited is recruiting a Laboratory Technician for a busy food manufacturing site in Gloucestershire. The role involves hands-on laboratory work supporting product quality, food safety and compliance.

You will perform sampling, testing and data recording, with training provided. The position requires accuracy, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a rotating shift pattern including weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience in a laboratory environment or science degree.
• Knowledge of HACCP, food safety or quality control is beneficial.
• Full training will be provided for right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine sampling and testing of raw materials and finished products.
• Perform microbiological testing using standard techniques.
• Undertake compositional and chemical testing.
• Conduct water testing and other routine laboratory analyses.
• Accurately record, interpret and report laboratory results.
• Complete Certificates of Analysis as required.
• Support HACCP, food safety and quality control procedures.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
• Ensure lab areas are clean, organized and compliant.
• Follow COSHH and Good Laboratory Practice requirements.

Laboratory Technician

Location: Gloucestershire

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Monday to Sunday, 5 days per week on a rotating basis

The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join a busy Technical and Quality team within a well established food manufacturing business based in Gloucestershire.

This is a hands on laboratory position suited to someone with previous laboratory experience, or a recent science graduate looking to build their career within the food manufacturing industry.

You will play an important role in supporting product quality, food safety and compliance, carrying out routine sampling and laboratory testing while ensuring results are recorded accurately and in line with company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine sampling and testing of raw materials and finished products
• Complete microbiological testing using appropriate laboratory techniques
• Undertake compositional and chemical testing
• Carry out water testing and other routine laboratory analysis
• Accurately record, interpret and report laboratory results
• Complete Certificates of Analysis where required
• Support HACCP, food safety and quality control procedures
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
• Ensure laboratory areas are kept clean, organised and compliant
• Follow COSHH, Health & Safety, Food Safety and Good Laboratory Practice requirements
• Work closely with the wider Technical and Quality team
• Support the department with any other relevant laboratory duties

Experience & Qualifications

Previous laboratory experience would be advantageous, particularly within food manufacturing, microbiology or quality control, although this is not essential.

We would also be interested in candidates with:

• A science-based degree or relevant scientific qualification
• GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English and Science
• A-Level or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry or a related subject
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures and accurate record keeping
• An understanding of HACCP, food safety or quality control

Training & Development

You’ll receive full training and support from an experienced Technical and Laboratory team, with opportunities to develop your technical knowledge and progress within the business.

Training will include areas such as COSHH, Food Safety and HACCP, with further development opportunities available as you progress.
