Job summary

Preventx is seeking a meticulous Laboratory Technician to join our pre-analytical team at our Sheffield site. You will manage booking, preparation, and storage of clinical samples, while ensuring compliance with GDPR and ISO 15189 standards.

You will work on-site, handle LIMS entries, waste disposal, and stock control, contributing to accurate, timely processing in a supportive lab environment.

Qualifications

• Diploma or A‑Level science subjects or equivalent practical lab experience.
• Experience in sample reception, booking, or logistics in a clinical or research lab.
• Familiarity with LIMS or similar sample-tracking software.
• Understanding of clinical waste disposal procedures and GDPR requirements.

Responsibilities

• Receive, log, and book clinical samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Label, aliquot, and prepare specimens for downstream workflows.
• Coordinate receiving and preparation of incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring correct packaging and courier handover.
• Segregate, label, and dispose of clinical waste in accordance with local regulations and SOPs.
• Handle personal and clinical data in compliance with GDPR, ensuring confidentiality and secure record-keeping.
• Monitor and manage inventory of sample tubes, reagents, labels, consumables, and storage media; raise requisitions as needed.
• Perform general housekeeping duties to keep reception and storage areas clean, organised, and compliant with ISO 15189 standards.

Shift Pattern: 11am-7pm Tue-Sat / Mon-Fri rotations

Role Overview

We’reseeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join ourpre analytical laboratory. As the first point of contact for incoming specimens,you'llensureaccuratebooking, preparation, and storage of clinical samples, whilemaintainingcompliance and supporting smooth laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

Booking & Sample Preparation

• Receive, log, and book clinical samples (blood, urine, swabs) into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Label, aliquot, and prepare specimens for downstream workflows.

Sample Reception & Shipment

• Coordinate receiving and preparation of incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring correct packaging and courier handover.

Clinical Waste Management

• Segregate, label, and dispose of clinical wastein accordance withlocal regulations and SOPs.

GDPR & Data Protection

• Handle personal and clinical data in compliance with GDPR, ensuring confidentiality and secure record-keeping.

Stock & Inventory Management

• Monitor and manage inventory of sample tubes, reagents, labels, consumables, and storage media; raise requisitions as needed.

Storage & Housekeeping

• Perform general housekeeping duties to keep reception and storage areas clean, organised, and compliant with ISO 15189 standards.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma, A-Level science subjects, or equivalent practical experience in a laboratory setting.
• Experience in sample reception, booking, orlogisticswithin a clinical or research laboratory.
• Familiarity with LIMS or similar sample-tracking software.
• Understanding of clinical waste disposal procedures and GDPR requirements.

Desirable

• Knowledge of ISO 15189 quality standards.
• Pump (manual/ electric)truck certification for handling bulk shipments.
