Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a proactive receptionist for the Pathology Reception to be the first point of contact and to manage enquiries with discretion. The role involves receiving and assessing specimens, confirming patient details, assigning laboratory numbers, distributing samples, and entering clinical data into the LIS.

You will also help prepare samples for testing and ensure reports are printed and dispatched in a timely, confidential manner.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact for the pathology department and handle a wide range of enquiries with discretion.
• Receive and assess suitability of laboratory pathological specimens for analysis.
• Check patient identification details and assign a laboratory number.
• Distribute specimens to relevant pathology sections and fast-track urgent samples.
• Input patient demographics, clinical details and assay requests into the laboratory computer system.
• Prepare samples for diagnostic testing including centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Analyze specimens using benchtop analysers under supervision and perform quality control.

• To check patient identification details and assign a laboratory number.
• To distribute specimens to relevant pathology sections, fast-trackingurgent, clinic, and labile samples as appropriate.
• To input patient demographics, clinical details and assay requests intothe laboratory computer system.
• Preparation of samples for diagnostic testing, including centrifugation,aliquoting and allocation to appropriate analyser racking.
• Analysis of specimens using simple benchtop analysers, includingquality control of these instruments under the supervision of qualifiedBiomedical Scientists.
• Printing, sorting and despatching of laboratory reports.
• Collection of data for audits.
• Distribution of Pathology consumables from main stores.
• To maintain confidentiality of information regarding the patient at alltimes
• To assist in keeping the workplace clean and tidy, including preparationof laboratory disinfectants.
• To work within the Pathology Reception Standard OperatingProcedures and general laboratory policies and procedures.
