Job summary

Care Fertility Birmingham is seeking a Laboratory Practitioner on a 12-month fixed-term contract within our Embryology team. You will support Clinical Scientists with routine clinical and laboratory activities, including semen analysis, sperm preparation, oocyte collection support and embryo transfer workflows.

The role is full-time (37.5 hours/week) with weekend/ rota responsibilities and opportunities to develop skills in a highly regulated clinical laboratory environment, contributing to

• Experience with data entry or administrative work is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnostic semen analysis in line with relevant standards.
• Sperm preparation, freezing and thawing procedures.
• Support oocyte collection and embryo transfer procedures.
• Preparing laboratory equipment, media, gradients and culture dishes.
• Maintaining accurate records, including treatment documentation and cryostorage data.
• Assisting with equipment monitoring, stock control and laboratory audits.
• Supporting compliance with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.

We're delighted to share an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented team member to join as a Laboratory Practitioner on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract within our Embryology team at Care Fertility Birmingham.

About The Role

As a Laboratory Practitioner, you will support Clinical Scientists with a wide range of routine clinical and laboratory activities, including:

You’ll Also

Work with clinical databases and digital systems to ensure accurate data entry and tracking

• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and other units
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean and compliant laboratory environment

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

• Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
• Confident working with data, systems and administrative processes

Experienced In An Administrative Or Clinical Support Role (essential)

Comfortable working in a regulated environment with strict procedures

• A strong communicator who works well as part of a team
• Passionate about patient care and supporting clinical excellence

Essential Requirements

GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths

• Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office and databases)
• Experience in data entry or administrative work

Desirable

• Experience in a healthcare or laboratory environment
• Knowledge of patient records or quality/audit processes

Key Details

Contract: 12-Month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Care Fertility Birmingham. There may also be a requirement to attend our Tamworth clinic from time to time to support operational needs.

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm (with some weekend and bank holiday work on a rota basis). Part-time applications will also be considered.

Salary: £27,813 - £30,057 per annum (depending on experience)
