Job summary

Wessex Water Services in Saltford is seeking two Laboratory Managers to join the Analytical Services leadership team. You will lead people, shape strategy, and drive improvements to deliver a high‑quality, compliant laboratory service across regulatory and UKAS standards.

You will oversee workforce development, budgeting, and risk management while working with other lab managers and technical leads to deliver safe, efficient operations and a resilient service for public health and the

Qualifications

• Significant leadership and people management experience including coaching and development of teams.
• Experience leading business change, continuous improvement, or technology deployment.
• Strong planning, organisational and decision‑making skills to manage competing priorities.
• Experience in workforce planning, organisational development and building team capability.
• Experience in a laboratory, scientific, or regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory performance and resilience.
• Contribute to Analytical Services strategy through development and change programmes.
• Develop workforce capability via recruitment, coaching, performance management and development.
• Monitor operational performance and respond to risks, incidents and constraints.
• Lead and support Technical Managers to deliver safe, high‑performing lab operations.
• Collaborate with managers and stakeholders to meet departmental and company objectives.
• Support business continuity and resilience arrangements across Analytical Services.
• Ensure quality standards and UKAS accreditation requirements are met.
• Promote a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture in the lab.
• Assist with budget planning and efficient use of resources.
• Keep abreast of scientific, regulatory and industry developments and implement relevant changes.
• Support development of new laboratory facilities and ways of working at Filton.
