Job summary

A leading construction firm in Tadcaster is seeking a Laboratory Manager to oversee a team of Laboratory Technicians and Scientists. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with health and safety standards and maintain laboratory equipment. Job description
Responsibilities
  • Overseeing and managing a team of three Laboratory Technicians, Metallurgists, and Materials Scientists.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out according to instructions.
  • Ensuring all health and safety requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensuring all equipment is maintained and calibrated as required.
  • Ensuring all reports are accurate and succinct, delivering required information to stakeholders.
  • Personally carrying out testing and report writing as needed.
  • Recruiting, training, and developing staff to ensure availability of necessary skills.
  • Providing reports to the Senior Leadership Team on activity levels, costs, and other key metrics.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a closely related field is essential.
  • Post‑graduate certifications (Masters, MSc, MEng, PhD) are highly welcome.
  • Proven laboratory experience (ideally five or more years).
  • Experience with microscopy, mechanical testing, corrosion, surface finish, heat treatment, etc.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to produce clear, concise technical reports.
  • People‑management or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
