Job summary

Adecco Group UK & Ireland is recruiting a Laboratory Assistant to join a leading scientific team based at the client’s Centre in Longbenton, Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a keen interest in laboratory work and science to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced R&D environment.

The role involves weighing products, preparing formulations for testing, conducting analyses, recording results, and maintaining safety with chemicals.

Qualifications

• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Weighing products and preparing solutions for testing.
• Preparing formulations and products for laboratory and consumer testing.
• Conducting physical and chemical analysis of formulations and finished products.
• Performing performance tests using established laboratory methods and procedures.
• Recording, analysing, and communicating results using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Operating laboratory equipment and computer-controlled testing systems.
• Supporting laboratory housekeeping activities and ensuring compliance with operating procedures.
• Maintaining accurate records and documentation of test results.
• Working safely with chemicals and laboratory materials, including enzymes where required.

Location: Longbenton, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 9BZ

Rate: £13.30 - £14.44 ph

Contract: Temporary Assignment

Start Date: 5 October 2026

End Date: 30 June 2027

Hours: Full-time - 40 hours

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a keen interest in laboratory work, science, chemistry, or product testing to gain hands-on experience within a fast-paced research and development environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Weighing products and preparing solutions for testing
• Preparing formulations and products for laboratory and consumer testing
• Conducting physical and chemical analysis of formulations and finished products
• Performing performance tests using established laboratory methods and procedures
• Recording, analysing, and communicating results using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Operating laboratory equipment and computer-controlled testing systems
• Supporting laboratory housekeeping activities and ensuring compliance with operating procedures
• Maintaining accurate records and documentation of test results

About You

• A strong interest in laboratory, scientific, or technical work
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately
• Good organisational and time management skills
• Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential
• A science-related qualification would be advantageous
