Job summary

Mitie Group plc. in Barnard Castle (GSK site) is seeking a Lab Support Steward to join a structured laboratory service.

The role is permanent, full-time at 37.5 hours per week, with responsibilities including glassware management, waste handling, and routine cleaning. You will work to high standards of compliance, safety and customer service, following ALCOA principles and GMP guidelines, and you will interact with clients and colleagues to maintain quality and accuracy in daily laboratory

Qualifications

• GCSE/NAT English, Maths and Science required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
• Good communication with colleagues and clients.

Responsibilities

• Washing, managing, and restocking laboratory glassware.
• Performing fume cupboard checks for airflow compliance.
• Handling and disposing of contaminated and hazardous waste.
• Cleaning and disinfecting laboratory areas as per procedures.
• Supporting media preparation activities.
• Maintaining housekeeping, safety and GMP compliance.
• Following procedures and keeping accurate records per ALCOA.

Key Responsibilities

• Washing, managing, and restocking laboratory glassware
• Performing laboratory fume cupboard checks to ensure airflow compliance with procedures
• Safe handling and removal of contaminated and hazardous waste
• Cleaning and disinfecting laboratory areas using rotating disinfectants in line with procedures
• Supporting general media preparation activities
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, safety, and GMP compliance across laboratory areas
• Following documented procedures and ensuring accurate record keeping in line with ALCOA principles (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, and Accurate)

GCSE/NAT level qualifications in English, Mathematics, and Science (preferably Biology)

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow strict procedures consistently
• A methodical and organised approach to work
• Good communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders
• An understanding of compliance and quality standards within a laboratory or regulated environment would be advantageous

This is a mobile and physically active role which includes manual handling and lifting activities, therefore a good level of physical fitness is essential.
