Job summary

TÜV SÜD, based in the United Kingdom, is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join our flow measurement laboratory in East Kilbride. You’ll install flow meters, fit pipework and perform mechanical maintenance across test rigs.

You will document work and adhere to health and safety standards. The role demands time-served apprenticeship or NVQ/City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, with proven pipefitting experience and strong drawing-reading skills.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proven experience as a pipefitter/mechanical engineer in lab or engineering settings.
• Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs and technical documents.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, valves, fittings and assembly techniques.
• High attention to detail with fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams with a proactive approach.
• Good communication and strong Health & Safety understanding.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, fit and install pipelines, flow meters and mechanical components to drawings and specs.
• Install flow meters in laboratory test setups and support test runs and checks.
• Perform routine and reactive maintenance to keep equipment and rigs operating reliably.
• Work with engineers/technicians to develop and improve mechanical lab systems and pipework.
• Conduct inspections, pressure/leak tests and create inspection records.
• Follow Health, Safety & Environmental requirements and keep the lab tidy and compliant.
• Contribute to continuous improvement to enhance reliability and efficiency.
• Accurately document all work, maintenance logs and inspection reports.
