Job summary

Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) in Oxford is seeking a detail-oriented Media & Glass Technician to provide essential lab support for the Generative Biology Institute. You will prepare media, maintain sterile consumables, and support researchers by delivering reliable, high-quality materials and services.

You will operate autoclaves and glasswashers, keep accurate records, and contribute to continuous improvement of lab procedures.

Qualifications

• A degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience in media preparation and/or laboratory technical services in research or industry.
• Strong understanding of microbiological techniques, aseptic working practices, contamination control, and sterilisation principles.
• Ability to prepare a wide range of media, buffers, solutions and agar plates from formulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare a wide range of laboratory media, buffers, agar plates, and solutions per SOPs and research needs.
• Accurately calculate and adjust osmolarity, pH, concentrations, and volumes.
• Ensure media prepared aseptically with quality standards to minimise contamination.
• Maintain and distribute sterile glassware and consumables for research activities.
• Operate autoclaves, glasswashers and routine lab equipment, with basic troubleshooting.
• Record media preparation, sterilisation cycles, and batch information for traceability.
• Monitor stock levels and expiry dates of media components and lab consumables.
• Provide responsive, professional service to researchers and colleagues.
