Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking a Systems Engineer to own the Spectrum edge dataplane and contribute to the evolution of its L4 proxy. You will work on a production-scale, high-velocity environment spanning Go-based edge services and control-plane components, interfacing with Unimog, Magic Transit, and other advanced networking platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience building large-scale, distributed systems.
• Strong Go programming skills; Rust knowledge a plus.
• Solid understanding of L3/L4 networking (TCP/UDP, IP, NAT, anycast).
• Experience with Linux networking primitives (sockets, eBPF, namespaces, netfilter/nftables, tc).
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and backend systems.
• Comfort with operating in production (on-call, incident response, root-cause analysis).
• Ability to read unfamiliar code, understand dependencies, and evolve production systems safely.
• Excellent debugging and performance optimization skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own Spectrum edge dataplane in Go: connection acceptance, forwarding, TLS termination, PROXY protocol, accounting, and eBPF integrations.
• Own Spectrum control plane in Go: configuration APIs, provisioning, and global config push to edge machines.
• Coordinate across dataplanes (Unimog, Magic Transit) and with Argo Smart Routing for integrated flows.
• Drive operational excellence: analytics, observability, on-call, incident response, debt reduction.
• Shape Spectrum roadmap as the L4 counterpart to the HTTP proxy stack.
