Job summary

QinetiQ Limited is seeking a 2nd Line Support Engineer at our Hereford site. You will deliver high-quality support across IT systems, handle incidents, perform maintenance, and implement changes while working with customers and internal teams in a highly secure environment.

Role requires at least 3 years' IT support experience, Windows/Linux administration, networking know-how, ITSM tools and ITIL-aligned practices. A DV clearance is preferred; 37 hours per week, permanent role.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years' experience in IT Support or 2nd Line Support.
• Experience administering Windows and/or Linux environments.
• Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls).
• Experience patching, maintaining and supporting enterprise systems.
• Experience using ITSM/Service Desk tools in ITIL-aligned environments.
• Understanding of cloud computing concepts.
• Current DV clearance preferred.

The Role

As an L2 Support Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality 2nd line support across a diverse range of IT systems, infrastructure, applications and services. This is a rare opportunity to join a newly formed team supporting a major Ministry of Defence programme as QinetiQ embarks on an exciting new five-year contract.

Day-to-day, you'll provide technical support, incident resolution, system maintenance and change implementation while working closely with customers, vendors and internal engineering teams. You'll help maintain the availability, security and performance of critical systems operating within a highly secure environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Resolving incidents and service requests across a broad range of IT services and technologies
• Supporting system administration, maintenance, patching and configuration activities
• Working closely with customers, third-party suppliers and internal support teams to ensure timely issue resolution
• Implementing technical changes in accordance with established change management processes
• Producing accurate technical documentation, reports and operational procedures
• Willingness to be part of the outside hours rota

Essential experience of the 2nd Line Support Engineer:

• At least 3 years' experience in an IT Support, Infrastructure Support or 2nd Line Support role
• Experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux environments
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching and firewalls
• Experience patching, maintaining and supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure
• Experience using ITSM and Service Desk tools within an ITIL-aligned environment
• Understanding of cloud computing concepts and modern IT operational practices

Essential qualifications for the 2nd Line Support Engineer:

• Current DV clearance preferred
• Minimum of 3 years' professional IT support experience
• Experience working within highly secure or restricted environments
