Job summary

QinetiQ is seeking a 2nd Line Support Engineer for our Malvern site. You’ll join a highly technical team providing support across multiple services and product lines, focusing on Customer IT within UKI Service Operations.

Expect to handle incidents, system administration, patching and change management in a secure, enterprise environment. You’ll work with Windows/Linux environments, network fundamentals, and ITSM tools, while contributing to documentation and operational procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years’ professional IT support experience.
• Experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux environments.
• Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching and firewalls.
• Experience patching, maintaining and supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure.
• Experience using ITSM and Service Desk tools within an ITIL-aligned environment.
• Understanding of cloud computing concepts and modern IT operational practices.
• Current DV clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Resolving incidents and service requests across a broad range of IT services and technologies.
• Supporting system administration, maintenance, patching and configuration activities.
• Working closely with customers, third‑party suppliers and internal support teams to ensure timely issue resolution.
• Implementing technical changes in accordance with established change management processes.
• Producing accurate technical documentation, reports and operational procedures.
• Willingness to be part of the outside hours rota.

The Role

As an L2 Service Support Engineer you will be part of a highly technical, cross‑functional team providing support engineering as a service across multiple services and product lines within the QinetiQ managed service portfolio. Focusing exclusively on Customer IT, this role forms a vital component of the UKI Service Operations support model. You will be working on a variety of infrastructures, tooling, software and hardware and bespoke systems with exposure to new emerging technologies.

Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical support, incident resolution, system maintenance and change implementation while working closely with customers, vendors and internal engineering teams. You’ll help maintain the availability, security and performance of critical systems operating within a highly secure environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

Essential experience of the 2nd Line Support Engineer:

• At least 3 years’ experience in an IT Support, Infrastructure Support or 2nd Line Support role
• Experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux environments
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching and firewalls
• Experience patching, maintaining and supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure
• Experience using ITSM and Service Desk tools within an ITIL-aligned environment
• Understanding of cloud computing concepts and modern IT operational practices

Essential qualifications for the 2nd Line Support Engineer:

• Current DV clearance preferred
• Minimum of 3 years’ professional IT support experience
• Experience working within highly secure or restricted environments

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Malvern site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. The Malvern facility is noted for its work in electronic warfare, surveillance and complex system integration, contributing significantly to the UK’s defence capabilities. Developing technologies for military and civilian applications, including sensors, communications and cyber security.
