Job summary

Brent Virtual School is seeking a KS4 & SEND Advisory Officer on a fixed-term or secondment basis for 12 months to support looked-after children to achieve their potential in education. This varied role combines KS4 advisory work with specialist SEND oversight to help young people stay engaged in learning and move confidently into post-16 opportunities.

You will lead oversight of the KS4 cohort, monitor attendance and attainment, and coordinate Personal Education Plans with SEND advice,

Qualifications

• Substantial experience supporting vulnerable children and young people in education, SEND, social care or related setting.
• Understanding of KS4 education, GCSE pathways and barriers to attendance, achievement and progression.
• Knowledge of SEND requirements, EHCPs and SEND Code of Practice; understanding of looked-after children.
• Ability to work with schools, carers and multi‑agency partners to coordinate support and challenge where needed.
• Ability to interpret pupil and cohort information and prioritise a varied caseload.

Responsibilities

• Lead educational oversight of the KS4 cohort, monitoring attendance, progress, attainment and stability.
• Coordinate Personal Education Plans and targeted support to improve GCSE outcomes.
• Provide SEND specialist advice including EHCP reviews and out-of-borough provision.
• Help prevent exclusions and support Year 11 transitions into education, employment or training.
