Job summary

John Wilkinson Primary School in the United Kingdom is seeking an excellent Class Teacher to lead a mixed Year 1/2 class and champion early reading. You will plan from starting points, using adaptive teaching to ensure progress for all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged learners.

The role focuses on a strong phonics-based approach with Little Wandle and a culture of reading for pleasure. You will join a leadership team developing the school and its reading provision.

Qualifications

• Excellent and experienced classroom practitioner with high expectations for every child.
• Understands mixed-age teaching and can plan effectively for children starting from different points.
• Uses assessment and adaptive teaching to ensure all pupils, including SEND and disadvantaged pupils, make strong progress.
• Passion for early reading and systematic phonics, with the expertise to give children a strong start.
• Has experience of Little Wandle or strong phonics expertise and the commitment to develop this quickly.
• Reading provision extends beyond phonics and includes fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and reading for pleasure.

Responsibilities

• Teach a mixed Year 1/2 class with high expectations for progress.
• Plan from children’s starting points and sequence learning with the right balance of support and challenge.
• Lead reading development and become Reading Champion to foster a culture of reading across the school.
• Contribute ideas, expertise and creativity to a school developing rapidly with ambitious plans.
