Job summary

GCS in Sheffield is seeking a Kotlin Developer to join the DevX Standards & Controls team, focusing on building and improving platforms for engineering governance. You'll work with Kotlin, Java, APIs, and microservices in a cloud-ready architecture.

Collaborate with developers, testers, product owners, and stakeholders; contribute to backend platforms with occasional frontend work; participate in Agile ceremonies and drive rapid, high-quality software delivery.

Qualifications

• Kotlin experience or strong Java background with willingness to learn Kotlin.
• Experience in API Development, SQL & Databases, HTML/JavaScript, or microservices design.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in Agile environments.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
• Strong communication and proactive, ownership mindset.
• Attention to detail and code quality.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Kotlin and Java-based applications and APIs.
• Build and enhance microservices within a modern cloud-ready architecture.
• Collaborate closely with developers, testers, product owners, and stakeholders.
• Deliver backend functionality, with occasional front-end contributions.
• Work directly with users and customers to resolve issues and implement feature requests.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and delivery.
• Perform code reviews and support automated testing initiatives.
• Contribute to a CI/CD culture focused on rapid, high-quality software delivery.
