Job summary

Experis - ManpowerGroup is recruiting a Kotlin Developer for a contract role in Sheffield. The position is hybrid, 2-3 days onsite per week, with a daily rate up to £450.80 inside IR35.

You will work on Kotlin and Java-based web applications and APIs within a microservices architecture, contributing to backend features and some frontend work, across multiple PoCs.

The team uses Github/Bitbucket, Jira and Confluence, and embraces agile CI/CD to deliver frequent iterations.

Qualifications

• Experience in Kotlin (or significant Java experience with willingness to learn Kotlin).
• Experience in API development, SQL/databases, HTML/Javascript.
• Experience with microservices.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in Agile with Jira/Confluence.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Strong English skills, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with developers, testers and the wider organisation to build and run products.
• Design, develop and implement back-end features with some frontend work.
• Work with a simple UI framework; not strictly frontend development.
• Collaborate with engineering to design and launch new features.
• Proactively assist customers to resolve issues and handle feature requests.
• Build APIs and microservices.
• Contribute in a CI/CD environment for fast, continuous delivery.
• Participate in peer reviews and support automated testing.

Role Title: Kotlin Developer

Duration: contract to run until 25/04/2027

Location: Sheffield. Hybrid, 2-3 days per week onsite

Rate: up to £450.80 p/d Umbrella inside IR35

About The Project

The Developer Experience (DevX) Standards and Controls function is building a platform for control owners and development teams to manage/view their compliance with a range of software development controls.

The candidate would be working on Kotlin and Java-based web applications and APIs. There are 2-3 applications and PoCs we are hiring for. Exact candidate allocation will depend on their experience and fit. All have a microservice architecture built using modern coding techniques.

Role purpose / summary

• Experience in Kotlin (or significant Java experience with a willingness to learn Kotlin)


• Experienced in API development, SQL/databases, HTML/Javascript


• Excellent writing skills and attention to detail in code


• Proactive person who will not wait to be told what to do next or be unblocked by others


• Experience working with standard developer collaboration Tools: Github/Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, etc

Your Responsibilities

• Collaborate with developers, testers and the wider organisation to build and run products


• Design, develop & implement back-end features as per backlog/priority with a small element of frontend development.


• All apps use a simple UI framework so not strictly 'front-end' development.


• Collaborate with the rest of the engineering team to design and launch new features.


• Proactively work with customers to resolve their issues and respond to feature requests.


• Build APIs and microservices


• Work in an agile CI/CD environment to deliver rapid iterations at a sustained velocity


• Be an active member of a team, participating in peer reviews and in testing others code through automated test scripting

Skills & Experience We Require

• Experience in Kotlin (or Java with willingness to learn Kotlin)


• Experienced in at least two or three of the following: API development, SQL/databases, HTML/Javascript


• Lots of experience of working with microservices


• Strong technical and analytical troubleshooting skills


• Experience in working with Agile including the use of Jira/ Confluence.


• Good interpersonal skills


• Strong English skills, written and spoken

Optional/Nice To Have

• Good working knowledge of cloud technologies like AWS, Azure and GCP
