Job summary

The National Archives is seeking a subject expert in appraisal and selection of public records under the Public Records Act. The role involves developing and delivering training and guidance to government departments on appraisal, selection and safekeeping of records across formats, with emphasis on transparency and accountability.

You will lead engagement with government stakeholders and contribute to policy interpretation and best practices.

Qualifications

• Experience of advising on appraisal, selection and safekeeping of public records under PRA.
• Ability to develop and deliver training and guidance on appraisal methods.
• Familiarity with Records Collection Policy and information rights legislation.
• Experience with governance panels and cross-government liaison would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice, guidance and training on appraisal and selection of public records for government stakeholders.
• Lead and deliver training on best practices for disposal, safekeeping, and transfer of records.
• Develop bespoke appraisal methodologies to aid transparency and accountability for public records.
• Review feasibility of solutions and service models for appraisal, selection and sensitivity review of records.
