Fodder is an award-winning farm shop and cafe celebrating the very best food and drink from Yorkshire.

Fodder acts as a shop window for local farmers and producers, helping consumers access local food easily. All profits support the charitable work of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. Fodder is renowned for its quality and exceptional customer service.

Purpose of the Role

This is an exciting time to join the Fodder team as we develop and expand our catering services. Currently, the cafe seats 110, and with the refit and extension, it will seat up to 200. The ideal candidate will have the experience, energy, and desire to develop this key role, supporting the growth of the business. The role involves managing daily kitchen operations, supporting Fodder Takeaway, delivering first-class Yorkshire dishes, ensuring efficiency and meeting financial targets. Training and motivating the team to be knowledgeable about Yorkshire food is also essential. Being well-organized is crucial.

Key Responsibilities
  • This is a hands-on role supporting the successful running of a busy kitchen, assisting where needed, and managing daily operations.
  • Produce top-quality Yorkshire food, assist in creating menus showcasing Yorkshire produce, and coach the team to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely food production.
  • Ensure all staff operate to high standards of food preparation and hygiene, with proper portion sizes and garnishes.
  • Manage the Kitchen team alongside the Kitchen Manager & Assistant Kitchen Manager, following company procedures.
  • Train team members and provide ongoing support, following company policies.
  • Assist in maintaining high customer satisfaction and resolving any complaints.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations and follow the Fodder HACCP plan, maintaining 5-star food hygiene standards.
  • Coordinate with the Cafe team to ensure smooth communication and food service from kitchen to customers.
  • Order stock competitively, manage stock rotation, control wastage, and find solutions to minimize waste.
  • Work with the Catering Management team to promote local Yorkshire suppliers, creating daily specials based on seasonality and trends.
  • Plan and execute successful events in collaboration with the Catering Management team.
  • Be a key holder, responsible for opening and closing Fodder as required.
  • Serve as a fire warden and first aider; training provided if needed.
  • Promote fairness and equality in the workplace, treating everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Represent the Society's values as an ambassador.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Food Safety Level Two qualification, First Aid qualification, and Fire Marshal training are preferable.
