Job summary

BaxterStorey in City of London is looking for a Kitchen Porter/General Assistant to join our busy kitchen on a part‑time basis (28 hours, Mon–Thu). You will support chefs with dishwashing, cleaning and basic prep, while helping to maintain hygienic, well‑organised workspaces.

Qualifications

• No formal education required, high school diploma preferred.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
• Good attention to detail and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Service – serve food and beverages to guests in a friendly and professional manner.
• Customer Service - provide excellent service by being attentive to guests’ needs.
• Teamwork - collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth operations and a safe working environment.
• Dishwashing – wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment by hand or in dishwashers.
• Kitchen Cleanliness – clean and sanitise surfaces and prep areas; manage waste disposal.
• Food Preparation – assist chefs with basic prep tasks (peeling, chopping, slicing).
• Inventory Management – receive, store and organise kitchen supplies and ingredients.
• Compliance with Health and Safety – maintain cleanliness and order in the kitchen.

Job Description

• Service – serve food and beverages to guests in a friendly and professional manner. Ensure that guests’ needs and requests are efficiently and effectively addressed
• Customer Service - provide excellent service by being attentive to guests’ needs at every point on their customer journey. Answering questions and addressing any concerns or issues in a friendly manner
• Teamwork - collaborate with all colleagues to ensure the smooth flow of operations and support and contribute to creating an inclusive and safe working environment
• Dishwashing – Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment either by hand or using industrial dishwashers
• Kitchen Cleanliness – Clean and sanitise kitchen surfaces, countertops, and food preparation areas. Empty rubbish bins and ensure proper disposal of waste materials
• Food Preparation – Assist chefs and cooks with basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling, chopping, and slicing ingredients
• Inventory Management – Assist in receiving, storing, and organising kitchen supplies and ingredients
• Compliance with Health and safety – maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen ensuring equipment is in good working order

Qualifications

• No formal education is required, but a high school diploma or equivalent may be preferred
• Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects
• Good attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions
• Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and sanitation practices is a plus
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
