Holroyd Howe is seeking a Kitchen Porter for a prestigious school near Petworth, West Sussex. The role is term-time, 40 hours per week, with shifts typically spanning early mornings to late afternoons and occasional weekends.

A commitment to cleanliness and team collaboration is essential, with induction provided. The position offers benefits including DBS safeguarding, free meals during shifts, and a supportive work environment within a renowned education setting.

Full Time: 40 hours per week

Salary: £30.160 per annum

Hours: Term time; typically a mixture of 7.15am-5:30pm and 10:30am-7pm.

Shifts Patterns are mostly Monday-Friday with approximately 10 weekends per year.

Outside of term, shifts are mostly 7am-3:30pm Monday to Friday.

Must be able to work the larger school functions.

Location: Prestigious Independent School near Petworth, West Sussex – GU28 0NB.

The School is located at South Down's Lavington Park, a 400-acre Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Job Description

• Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen, including work surfaces, equipment, floors, and storage areas - Wash, sanitise, and organise crockery, cutlery, glassware, and cooking utensils efficiently and safely - Support the kitchen team by clearing and preparing workstations between service periods
• Dispose of waste responsibly and maintain organised refuse areas in compliance with health and safety regulations - Assist with stock rotation and basic food storage procedures, ensuring items are stored correctly - Operate kitchen equipment such as dishwashers and cleaning machinery with care and attention
• Respond promptly to requests from kitchen and service staff, demonstrating flexibility and a collaborative approach - Report any maintenance issues, breakages, or hygiene concerns to management immediately - Adhere to all food safety and health and safety protocols at all times - Contribute to a positive, inclusive kitchen environment through reliable attendance and a supportive attitude

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a kitchen, catering, or cleaning role is desirable but not essential; we are happy to provide induction and training - Ability to work efficiently and remain calm in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment - Strong attention to detail with a genuine commitment to cleanliness and hygiene standards
• Physical stamina and capability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks - Good manual dexterity and coordination when handling crockery, glassware, and equipment - Reliable, punctual, and demonstrating a strong work ethic
• Willingness to learn and take on feedback constructively - Basic communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team - Understanding of, or willingness to learn, health and safety protocols and food safety practices - Desirable: Food safety awareness or basic food hygiene knowledge - Desirable: Previous experience in a professional kitchen environment
