Job summary

Oxygen House in Exeter is seeking a Kitchen Porter for a six‑month fixed‑term contract to support the kitchen team, keeping workspaces clean, safe and well organised to enable chefs to deliver quality meals.

You may have kitchen experience or be starting a career in catering, and you will join a team that values reliability, teamwork and pride in high standards of cleanliness.

Qualifications

• Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
• Comfortable carrying out physical tasks, including lifting deliveries.
• Organised and able to work efficiently during busy periods.
• Proactive and able to spot what needs doing without being asked.

Responsibilities

• Wash and put away pots, pans, utensils, crockery and kitchen equipment throughout the day.
• Keep kitchen surfaces, floors, equipment and storage areas clean and tidy.
• Receive and store deliveries, ensuring good stock rotation practices are followed.
• Maintain clean and organised fridges, freezers and dry stores.
• Manage waste, recycling and compost streams correctly.
• Use cleaning products safely and follow COSHH guidelines.
• Report any maintenance, hygiene or safety concerns to the Sous Chef.
• Support the wider kitchen team with other reasonable duties as required.

Job Title: Kitchen Porter

Location: Oxygen House, Exeter

Term: Fixed Term 6 months (contract, with the potential to extend or become permanent)

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, daytime hours only. No weekends.

Salary: £12.71 per hour plus generous company benefits .

Start date: Early December 2026

We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our team on a six‑month fixed‑term contract. This is a vital role within the kitchen, helping to ensure our chefs have a clean, safe and organised environment in which to deliver exceptional food every day.

Key Responsibilities

About You

You’ll be:

Desirable

• Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter or within a catering environment.

• Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene qualification.

• Awareness of COSHH and safe chemical handling.

• An interest in sustainability, waste reduction and recycling.
