Job summary

Morgan Jones Recruitment Consultants is seeking a reliable Kitchen Porter for a school kitchen in Canterbury. You will help maintain cleanliness and hygiene, support with dishwashing, waste removal, and basic food preparation as required.

The role may include occasional late finishes or additional hours to meet the school’s needs. Applicants should have an Enhanced DBS certificate (current or on Update Service) and/or previous kitchen experience is desirable.

Qualifications

• DBS (Enhanced) certificate required or currently on Update Service.

Responsibilities

• Wash and clean dishes, utensils, trays and kitchen equipment.
• Keep kitchen areas and surfaces clean and hygienic throughout the day.
• Assist with basic food preparation as required (washing, peeling, chopping).
• Support catering team with meal preparation and service.
• Empty bins and manage waste disposal.
• Ensure floors and sinks are clean and hazards-free.
• Follow food hygiene and health and safety procedures at all times.
• Use cleaning products safely and correctly.
• Assist with deliveries, stock rotation and putting away supplies.

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable Kitchen Assistant to join a busy catering team at a school in Canterbury. You'll help maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the school kitchen, supporting the wider catering team with dish washing, surface cleaning, waste removal, and basic food preparation as required. Occasional late finishes or additional hours may be necessary, depending on the school's needs.

Responsibilities

• Washing and cleaning dishes, utensils, trays and kitchen equipment
• Keeping kitchen areas, work surfaces and equipment clean and hygienic throughout the day
• Supporting with basic food preparation, such as washing, peeling and chopping ingredients when required
• Assisting the catering team with the preparation and service of meals
• Emptying bins and ensuring waste is disposed of correctly
• Keeping floors, sinks and other kitchen areas clean and free from hazards
• Following food hygiene, health and safety procedures at all times
• Ensuring cleaning products and equipment are used safely and correctly
• Helping with deliveries, stock rotation and putting away supplies when required
• Working as part of the wider catering team to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly
• Following instructions from the Catering Manager and wider school catering team
• Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene at all times

What you'll need

• An enhanced DBS certificate - either current or registered on the Update Service
• Previous experience in a similar kitchen or cleaning role (desirable)
