Job summary

The Malone, a four-star boutique hotel in Belfast, is seeking a Kitchen Porter to uphold cleanliness and hygiene across the kitchen and support a smooth operation.

This role offers 30 hours per week with benefits including 28 days’ holiday, staff discounts on stays and dining, free parking, and discounted friends and family rates. You will assist in food preparation, pot-wash, stock control and ensure safety and COSHH compliance.

Qualifications

  • Previous kitchen or hospitality experience preferred.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy items when required.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in food preparation and contribute to a smooth kitchen operation.
  • Clean the kitchen efficiently according to schedules.
  • Support the team and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Ensure pot-wash standards are high, prioritising cleanliness.
  • Support health & safety and food hygiene compliance.
  • Assist with stock control and ordering to manage inventory.
  • Follow COSHH regulations and use PPE appropriately.
  • Assist Head Chef with stocktaking and storage, minimising waste.
  • Follow health and safety regulations and work safely at all times.
  • Complete any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the Line Manager.

Kitchen Porter

As a Kitchen Porter, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen by diligently following established procedures and best practices. You will effectively assist in food preparation and contribute to a smooth and efficient kitchen operation. By consistently demonstrating a commitment to cleanliness, safety, and efficiency, you will contribute to a positive and safe working environment for all.

The successful candidate will be required to work 30 hours per week.

About the role

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist in food preparation and contribute to a smooth and efficient kitchen operation.

  • Competently and efficiently clean the kitchen, adhering to established cleaning schedules.

  • Maintain a positive and can-do attitude, supporting the team and contributing to a positive work environment.

  • Ensure pot-wash standards are maintained to the highest level, prioritising cleanliness and efficiency.

  • Assist in ensuring a high level of Health & Safety and food hygiene, adhering to all safety guidelines.

  • Support stock control and ordering processes to ensure efficient inventory management.

  • Be aware of COSHH regulations and use PPE appropriately.

  • Support the Head Chef in stocktaking and storage, ensuring accurate records and minimising waste.

  • Comply with all Health and Safety regulations and work safely at all times.

  • Complete any other reasonable tasks as delegated by your Line Manager.

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or hospitality environment (preferred but not essential).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced setting and handle pressure.

  • Good understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.

  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy items when required.

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
