Job description

Are you an exceptional Kitchen Manager with a passion for healthy eating and proven leadership skills? Randstad C&P is searching for a dynamic individual to drive the in-house catering at a vibrant school in Hull. If you're ready to deliver excellence with every meal, every day, we want to hear from you!

As our Kitchen Manager, you'll be at the heart of the school's catering operation, overseeing every aspect from menu creation to team leadership.

  • You'll plan, create, and cost imaginative, nutritious, and balanced menus that meet School Food Standards. You'll also ensure all dietary requirements (allergies, intolerances, cultural needs) are met and clearly labelled. You'll oversee and participate in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of all meals to the highest standard, focusing on portion control and minimizing waste.
  • You'll lead, manage, and motivate the kitchen team, handling staff rotas, training, and performance. Fostering a positive and professional working environment is key, and you'll ensure all staff are thoroughly trained in food safety, health and safety, and allergy awareness.
  • You'll manage the catering budget effectively to meet financial targets. This includes ordering food and supplies from approved suppliers for the best value, completing regular stocktakes, and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all catering areas is paramount. You'll implement and maintain food safety management systems (HACCP), ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and school policies, and keeping meticulous records.

Ideal candidate:

  • Experience in a school environment, ideally catering to 1500+ pupils.
  • Solid financial experience managing budgets.
  • Proficiency in maintaining electronic records.
  • Relevant certifications, including a Health and Safety Certificate, IOSH, a relevant catering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or NVQ Level 3 in Professional Cookery), and a Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate.
