Sunderland Care and Support Ltd is hiring a Kitchen Assistant to support meal preparation and service in a busy kitchen, with a Monday to Friday pattern and a focus on high-quality, cost-conscious catering.

You will wash and prepare ingredients, check dates, rotate stock, and maintain hygiene to meet current standards. The role includes induction, DBS paid, a starting salary of £25,949, pension, and generous annual leave with progression opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of all food and beverages as directed, ensuring high customer satisfaction.
• Prepare and serve food in accordance with standards and health & safety guidelines to maintain quality and low cost.
• Maintain kitchen hygiene and meet environmental health requirements to sustain a 5-star rating.
• Promote health and safety in all catering operations and participate in regular training.
• Keep abreast of new initiatives, systems and regulations through training.
• Promote effective waste management within the kitchen.
• Washing, peeling and preparing ingredients; unloading supplies and organizing stockroom; checking sell-by dates and rotating stock; cleaning appliances and equipment; observing cooking times and temperatures.

Job description

The role of a kitchen assistant will be expected to:

• Assist in the preparation of all food and beverages as and when required, as directed by the cook, assistant cook or manager, whilst ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
• To prepare and serve food in accordance with defined standards and quality, working within CQC /OFSTED guidelines regarding current health & safety and hygiene legislation and health and safety policy, with the aim of achieving high standards of customer care and good quality at low cost.
• To help to maintain excellent standards within the kitchen to meet the needs of environmental health and to help maintain current hygiene rating of 5 star.
• To promote and participate in a proactive approach to health and safety in the delivery of all catering operations.
• To keep abreast of new initiatives, systems, and regulations through regular training.
• Promote effective waste management within the kitchen.

This role is based on a Monday to Friday working pattern. Kitchen Assistants perform a range of duties around the kitchen, including:

• Washing, peeling and preparing food ingredients
• Unloading fresh supplies and organising the stockroom
• Checking sell-by dates and rotating food stock
• Cleaning kitchen appliances and equipment
• Observing cooking times and correct temperatures
