Job summary

Gurkha Services Ltd seeks a reliable Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team, supporting the preparation and service of nutritious meals for residents in care homes. The role maintains a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen to ensure residents receive high-quality food.

Qualifications

• Basic food hygiene knowledge or willingness to complete Level 2 Food Hygiene training.
• Previous kitchen or catering experience preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in food preparation and simple meals under supervision of the Chef.
• Maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen environment and safe work surfaces.
• Wash, dry and store utensils, pots, pans and equipment safely.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages; assist with deliveries and storage.
• Follow health & safety, food hygiene and infection control procedures; work in a care-home team.

About the Role

1. Food Preparation Support

• Assist in preparing ingredients and simple meals under the supervision of the Chef.
• Support cooking processes and portion meals as required.
• Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
• Wash, dry, and store kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and equipment safely.
• Ensure work surfaces, floors, and storage areas are clean and organised.
• Monitor food and supply stock levels and report shortages to the Chef.
• Assist with receiving deliveries and storing items correctly.
• Dispose of food waste and rubbish according to hygiene and environmental standards.
• Follow all health & safety, food hygiene, and infection control procedures.
• Work effectively as part of the kitchen and care home team.
• Support colleagues and respond to requests promptly to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

• Basic food hygiene knowledge or willingness to complete Level 2 Food Hygiene training.
• Previous kitchen or catering experience preferred but not essential.

Preferred (Training Provided if Needed):

• IDDSI awareness for care home dietary needs
• Experience or training in safe food handling and allergen management
