Job summary

Ann’s Care Homes in the United Kingdom is seeking a dedicated Catering Assistant to prepare nutritious, well balanced meals for residents. You will handle and store food safely, serve meals and drinks, talk with residents to ensure they like the meals, and keep surfaces, fridges, ovens and floors clean in line with COSHH and Food Hygiene regulations.

You will assist with meal trays, trolley transport, and dishwashing, help order stock, and support the kitchen so it runs smoothly.

Qualifications

• Basic numeracy and literacy are required.
• COSHH and health and safety knowledge are essential.
• Basic knowledge of catering and food hygiene regulations.
• Basic knowledge of operating kitchen equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing nutritious, well balanced meals.
• Handle and store food safely according to regulations.
• Serve meals and drinks to residents and interact to ensure satisfaction.
• Clean surfaces, equipment, fridges, ovens and floors.
• Prepare meal trays, lay tables, and transport to dining areas.
• Order food and kitchen supplies; check fridge/freezer temperatures daily.
• Take deliveries and manage storage areas.
• Any other duties to keep the kitchen running smoothly.

Job description

The Successful Candidate will:

• Assist in the preparation of nutritious, well balanced, attractive meals in accordance with the needs of the people who use the service
• Handle and store food in accordance with Food Hygiene regulations.
• Serve meals and drinks to the people that use the service (dependent upon service)
• Talk to the people who use our service to ensure that the food has been prepared well and they like it
• Use cleaning materials in accordance with COSHH regulations Blend food as required
• Prepare meal trays, lay tables, collect trays and clear tables after meal times Load up trolleys for meal times and transport to and from the dining room(s)
• Clean all work surfaces, equipment, fridges, ovens and floors and store items correctly
• Ensure store rooms are well organised and clean Wash crockery and cutlery or stack dishwasher
• Check the temperature of the fridge and freezer on a daily basis Order food and kitchen equipment
• Take delivery of food
• Ensure that food is used before expiry date Refill Cereal, Sugar containers etc
• Ensure that cleaning rotas are maintained and adhered to
• Take the people that use the service to the dining room(s) (dependent upon service) Hoover dining room (dependent upon service)
• Any other duty as specified by the Chef to assist in ensuring the kitchen runs as smoothly as possible

Essential Criteria

• Basic numeracy & Literacy
• Willingness to work towards an NVQ2 in Catering
• Basic knowledge of Catering & Food Hygiene Regulations
• Basic knowledge on Operation of kitchen equipment
• COSHH / Health and Safety knowledge
• Previous experience in Catering (preferable in a Care Setting desirable but not essential)
