Job summary

St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School, part of Coast and Vale Learning Trust, is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join the catering team. The role is 10 hours per week, term-time only plus 2.5 days, with 5 days per week and 2 hours per day.

Responsibilities include basic food prep, service of meals, hygiene, and setting up dining areas. DBS checks and safeguarding are part of the process; closing date 22 Sept 2026, interviews 28 Sept 2026.

• Maintaining attractive food presentation throughout all services.
• Encouraging children to choose healthy meal options.
• Completing temperature record forms.
• Completing cleaning schedule checklists.
• Reporting any deficiencies or defects to the Cook.

Salary: Salary Scale: Band 3 / SCP 4 (£6217.76 actual)

Start Date: As soon as possible

Contract: 10 hours per week, worked over 5 days, term time only + 2.5 days, permanent

St Gregory’s is looking to appoint a Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team. Duties include, but are not exclusive to, the following:

Observing Health and Safety Regulations as directed by the Cook;

Assisting with basic food preparation and the service of meals;

Ensuring high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained in the catering areas, including cleaning tables, washing up, brushing and mopping floors;

Assisting with the setting up and dismantling of dining furniture;

Observing correct portion sizes;

Maintaining attractive food presentation throughout all services;

Encouraging children to choose healthy meal options;

Completing temperature record forms;

Completing cleaning schedule checklists;

Reporting any deficiencies, damage or defects to equipment or supplies to the Cook.
