Job summary

INDHOS is seeking experienced Kitchen Assistants for temporary assignments in care home settings across the Oxford area. You will support meal service, food preparation and maintaining kitchen cleanliness in a busy team environment.

Candidates with an Enhanced DBS and previous care home catering experience are encouraged to apply. Flexible shifts and ongoing assignments are available with weekly pay.

Qualifications

• Enhanced DBS certificate is required.
• Previous experience as Kitchen/Catering Assistant, Kitchen Porter or similar.
• Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.
• Awareness of allergies and special dietary requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with basic food preparation and meal service.
• Prepare ingredients, snacks, drinks and simple items.
• Serve meals to residents in a friendly, professional manner.
• Set up and clear dining and kitchen areas.
• Wash dishes and maintain a clean kitchen environment.
• Follow food hygiene and safety procedures at all times.
• Store food, ingredients and cleaning products safely.
• Support kitchen team during busy meal services.
• Follow residents' dietary requirements and texture-modified meals.
• Adhere to Health & Safety, infection control and safeguarding policies.

About the Role

We have ongoing opportunities for experienced Kitchen Assistants to work within care home settings across Bishop Auckland and the surrounding areas. Whether you're looking for a few shifts each week or more regular temporary work, we have assignments available to suit your availability.

This is a rewarding opportunity for reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistants who enjoy working as part of a busy catering team. You will support the kitchen with the preparation and service of meals, helping to ensure residents receive a high standard of food and service.

Working across a variety of care homes, you'll need to adapt quickly to different kitchen environments while maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with basic food preparation and meal service.
• Prepare ingredients, snacks, drinks and simple food items as required.
• Serve meals to residents in a friendly and professional manner.
• Assist with setting up and clearing down dining and kitchen areas.
• Wash dishes, utensils, pots and kitchen equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen environment.
• Follow food hygiene and food safety procedures at all times.
• Store food, ingredients and cleaning products safely and correctly.
• Support the kitchen team during busy meal services.
• Follow instructions regarding residents' dietary requirements, allergies and texture-modified meals.
• Follow all company policies relating to Health & Safety, infection control and safeguarding.
• Adapt confidently to different kitchen teams and working environments.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

• Enhanced DBS
• Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant, Catering Assistant, Kitchen Porter or similar.
• Experience within care homes, healthcare, education, hospitality or other catering environments is desirable.
• A good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.
• An awareness of allergies and specialist dietary requirements.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• The ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
• A reliable, hardworking and positive approach.
• The ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team.
• A flexible approach to temporary and agency work.
