Job summary

Care Concern Group is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support the kitchen team in preparing and delivering nutritious meals for residents at Fernhill Neurological Centre, Farnborough. Work alongside chefs with duties including chopping, prep, portioning and basic cooking, following menus and individual dietary requirements.

You will maintain food hygiene, assist with stock rotation, temperature checks and storage, and support texture-modified diets as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering or kitchen environment.
• Healthcare or care setting experience desirable.
• Understanding of food safety, hygiene and health and safety requirements.
• Experience preparing meals for special dietary or texture-modified requirements desirable.
• Flexible, proactive and willing to learn.
• Able to work under pressure and use initiative.
• Compassionate and respectful approach.
• Able to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Job description

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will support the kitchen team with the preparation and delivery of nutritious, high quality meals for the people we support. Working alongside the chefs, the role includes food preparation such as chopping, mixing, portioning and assembling ingredients, as well as supporting basic cooking and meal preparation in line with planned menus and individual dietary requirements. You will help maintain high standards of food hygiene and safe working practices, including stock rotation, food storage and temperature checks. The role also involves supporting the kitchen team to meet the nutritional and dietary needs of individuals, including texture-modified and specialist diets. A caring and sensitive approach is important when working around people with neurological conditions, including those who may have cognitive, physical or communication difficulties.

• Previous experience in a catering or kitchen environment
• Experience in a healthcare or care setting is desirable
