Job summary

Avon Search is recruiting for a Kitchen Assistant at a modern, 120-bed care home in Gravesend. You will support the catering team with meal prep and service, ensuring cleanliness and organisation throughout all kitchen areas.

Ideal candidates will have kitchen experience, a good understanding of hygiene, and a flexible, team-focused approach to support residents’ daily meals and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a kitchen or catering environment is advantageous.
• Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety.
• Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 would be desirable.
• Reliable, hardworking and well organized.
• Able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Flexible and willing to assist with various kitchen duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chef and catering team with basic food preparation.
• Help prepare and serve meals, snacks and refreshments for residents.
• Assist with preparation of special diets and texture-modified meals as directed.
• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans and kitchen equipment.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen and food prep areas.
• Clean work surfaces, floors and equipment per hygiene procedures.
• Assist with receiving, storing and rotating food deliveries.
• Ensure food is stored safely and in line with hygiene requirements.
• Follow all Food Safety, Health & Safety and infection control procedures.
• Work closely with catering and care teams to support a positive dining experience for residents.

Avon Search is currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established, purpose-built 120-bed care home in Gravesend, offering a wide range of specialist care services for older people.

The home provides residential, nursing, dementia, palliative, respite and rehabilitation care, supporting residents with a variety of complex needs, including dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, confusion, bariatric care and other specialist conditions.

Situated in a quieter part of Northfleet, the home enjoys a pleasant and peaceful setting, surrounded by green spaces and mature tree canopies, while still benefiting from convenient access to local town amenities.

The Role

We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join the catering team on a full-time basis.

You will play an important role in supporting the kitchen team with the preparation and serving of meals, ensuring the kitchen is kept clean, tidy and organised at all times.

Working within a busy care home environment, you will help ensure residents receive nutritious, appetising meals while maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene and cleanliness.
