Job summary

Longdon Park School in the United Kingdom is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team. You will help prepare and serve nutritious meals, contribute to a safe, clean dining environment and support high standards of hygiene and customer service.

We value reliability and teamwork; training can be provided if you have limited experience. You will work with experienced colleagues to make a positive difference for pupils with complex needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in food handling or catering is desirable but training can be provided.
  • Ability to work in a busy kitchen and maintain high cleanliness standards.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing, cooking and serving nutritious meals and refreshments.
  • Set up dining areas and serve food in a friendly, efficient manner.
  • Wash dishes and maintain cleaning standards across kitchen and dining areas.
  • Carry out daily cleaning duties and monitor hygiene and safety practices.
  • Support safe transportation of meals to different dining locations when required.

Every meal you help prepare and serve plays an important role in supporting the health, wellbeing and happiness of our pupils, helping them feel ready to learn, grow and achieve their potential. This is much more than a kitchen role. You'll be part of a welcoming school community where your work makes a genuine difference every single day. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll help create a safe, clean and positive dining environment while ensuring high standards of food hygiene and customer service.   • Assist with preparing, cooking and serving nutritious meals and refreshments.
  • Help set up and prepare dining areas ready for meal service.
  • Serve food in a friendly, efficient and professional manner.
  • Wash dishes, kitchen utensils, catering equipment and maintain excellent cleaning standards throughout the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Carry out daily cleaning duties across the kitchen, dining areas and other designated school areas.
  • Support the safe transportation of meals to different dining locations when required.
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and Health & Safety at all times.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and safely store equipment and chemicals in line with COSHH guidance.
  • Report maintenance issues or Health & Safety concerns promptly.
  • Provide flexible support across the facilities and catering team during busy periods or staff absence. We're looking for someone who:
  • Enjoys working as part of a team in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene.
  • Has food preparation or catering experience (desirable, but not essential as training can be provided).
  • Can work efficiently, use their own initiative and manage their workload effectively.
  • Has good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is reliable, organised and committed to delivering an excellent service.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and health & safety.

Longdon Park School opened in June 2015 and is a co-educational day school for pupils aged 7 to 18 with complex educational needs, communication difficulties and behaviours that may challenge, primarily associated with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We operate across two specialist sites to provide age-appropriate learning environments: Egginton, Derby supporting pupils aged 7-14 and Branston Burton upon Trent supporting young people aged 14-18. Our therapeutic, supportive and inclusive approach enables every pupil to develop confidence, independence and resilience. We help our young people understand the impact of their actions, make positive choices and develop the social and emotional skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
