Job summary

Shooting Stars Nurseries in Kings Norton is seeking a part-time Kitchen Assistant to help prepare healthy meals for children aged 0-5. You will work around 11:00am–2:00pm, 15 hours per week, alongside the Nursery Cook to ensure food safety and high standards of cleanliness.

Experience in a kitchen or food service role is welcome, with responsibilities including food preparation, serving meals, handling special dietary needs and maintaining kitchen and dining areas to a safe, hygienic standard.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, catering environment or food preparation role.
• Good understanding of food hygiene and food safety practices.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
• Reliable, organised and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience within nursery settings, schools, care homes, hospitals or healthcare environments.
• Candidates who would feel confident supporting or covering the Nursery Cook during annual leave or absence.

Responsibilities

• Supporting housekeeping duties within the nursery.

Shooting Stars Nurseries are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly team at our Kings Norton nursery (B30 3QJ).

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience as a Kitchen Assistant, Catering Assistant, School Kitchen Assistant, Cook's Assistant or Food Service Assistant who enjoys preparing nutritious meals and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety.

Working alongside our Nursery Cook, you will help provide healthy meals and snacks for children aged 0-5 years while supporting the smooth running of the nursery kitchen and helping maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment throughout the nursery.

What You're Doing

As our Kitchen Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

Food Preparation & Service

• Supporting the Nursery Cook with the preparation and serving of healthy, nutritious meals and snacks.
• Assisting with special dietary requirements and food allergy procedures.
• Maintaining high standards of food presentation and food safety.
• Helping ensure children's nutritional needs are met.
• Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and work areas.

• Receiving and storing deliveries correctly.
• Supporting the efficient day-to-day running of the kitchen.
• Following all food hygiene and food safety procedures.
• Supporting housekeeping duties within the nursery.
• Completing cleaning schedules to a high standard.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic environment.
• Safe disposal of waste and recycling.

Health & Safety

• Following Food Hygiene, COSHH and Health & Safety procedures.
• Supporting risk assessments and safety checks.
• Ensuring cleanliness standards are consistently maintained.

What We're Looking For
