Job summary

Asylum Aid invites applications for the Justice First Fellowship, offering a training contract opportunity for aspiring social welfare lawyers. Fellows will handle immigration, asylum, trafficking and human rights work under supervision and contribute to public law cases.

The fellowship includes a rotating seat system across Children and Young People’s, Statelessness, Public Law, and Asylum and Protection teams, with support to gain registration/accreditation and to become a qualified lawyer in

Qualifications

• Complete and pass the Legal Practice Course (LPC) by 14 March 2027, or have an undergraduate degree and complete and pass SQE Part 1 by 14 March 2027.
• Have the right to work in the UK.
• Be willing and able to commit to two years as a fellow from April 2027.
• Demonstrate a commitment to social justice through voluntary work or lived experience.

Responsibilities

• Cover immigration, asylum, trafficking and human rights cases under supervision.
• Develop country background research and case-related legal research.
• Support public law work and policy advocacy as part of casework.
• Rotate across Children and Young People’s, Statelessness, Public Law, and Asylum and Protection teams to gain a rounded training experience.
