Job summary

McLaren Racing is seeking a Structural Analysis engineer to maximise the structural performance of the F1 car. You will apply advanced FEA tools and engineering judgement to satisfy safety and durability requirements.

Based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, you will work with Design, Materials, Vehicle Performance and Labs to deliver robust, innovative solutions under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
• Knowledge of structural and stress analysis methods.
• Familiarity with FEA packages and scripting.

Job Description

Perform Structural Analysis in order to maximise the structural performance of the F1 car. The role will use the latest structural simulation tools, engineering skill and creativity and ensure that stringent safety & durability requirements are satisfied.

Role Dimensions:

The role is a full time position and is primarily based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking. Forming part of the Structural Design Team, you’ll also be working closely with Design, Materials, Vehicle performance and Labs.

What You’ll Do:

• Independently develop and validate FEA structural models to ensure robust and reliable designs.
• Guarantee solutions meet functional safety and reliability standards, safeguarding performance and compliance.
• Contribute technical expertise to proposals, enhancing understanding and innovation.
• Innovate solutions to maximize car performance, pushing the boundaries of engineering excellence.
• Analyze problems with fresh perspectives, improving and refining existing solutions.
• Adhere to internal methodologies and procedures, ensuring consistency and quality.
• Report analysis results promptly, presenting them in a clear, concise, and structured manner.
• Specify and support component sign-off testing, ensuring all components meet rigorous standards

Qualifications

• Strong Degree in Mechanical/ Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent
• Good knowledge of structural/ stress analysis methodologies, including classical hand calculations (Basic Sizing, Fatigue etc.)
• Some familiarity with mainstream FEA packages and solvers desirable (Hyperworks, Abaqus, Optistruct) as well as coding/ scripting skills
