Job summary

ARM is seeking a Junior Site Reliability Engineer to help keep our cloud services reliable and observable from our Manchester office. You will perform well-defined operational and engineering tasks under the guidance of senior SREs, learning tools and practices to gradually take on broader ownership.

The role focuses on deploying, patching, monitoring, and automation tasks, with on-call shadowing initially.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in a technical subject is required.
• Basic knowledge of Linux, networking and at least one scripting or programming language.
• Clear communication and a willingness to ask for help early.

Responsibilities

• Carries out routine operational tasks such as deployments, patching, access requests and capacity checks, following documented procedures.
• Writes and improves scripts and small automation tasks to reduce manual toil, with code review from senior colleagues.
• Maintains dashboards, alerts and runbooks, and flags gaps or noisy alerts.
• Joins the on‑call rota once trained, initially as a shadow or secondary responder.
• Keeps accurate tickets, documentation and handover notes.

The Junior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is an early-career engineer who helps keep cloud services reliable and observable, working under the guidance of more experienced SREs. They carry out well-defined operational and engineering tasks, learn the team's tools and practices, and build the skills to take on wider ownership over time.

Responsibilities

• Carries out routine operational tasks such as deployments, patching, access requests and capacity checks, following documented procedures.


• Writes and improves scripts and small automation tasks to reduce manual toil, with code review from senior colleagues.


• Maintains dashboards, alerts and runbooks, and flags gaps or noisy alerts.


• Supports the data management systems in the area by following guidance from senior colleagues.


• Joins the on‑call rota once trained, initially as a shadow or secondary responder.


• Keeps accurate tickets, documentation and handover notes.Skills

• A degree or equivalent in a technical subject, or demonstrable practical experience through projects, apprenticeships or internships.


• Basic knowledge of Linux, networking and at least one scripting or programming language.


• Clear communication and a willingness to ask for help early.

Desirable

• Previous experience in an IT operations, support, DevOps or software role.


• Hands‑on exposure to GCP, Docker or Kubernetes through study or personal projects.


• GCP Cloud Digital Leader or Associate Cloud Engineer certification, or a commitment to obtain one.
