Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a Junior Site Engineer (Civils & Infrastructure) to join a long-term RAF civil engineering project near Thetford, Norfolk. You will assist daily with setting out, QA and site record-keeping across heavy groundworks, drainage, pavements and structural civils in a secure environment.

The role suits a junior or assistant engineer with 1–2 years UK experience, CSCS, and a Civil Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/degree). BPSS clearance is required.

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years' hands-on experience as a Junior/Assistant Engineer on UK civil schemes.
• Proficiency with GPS/Total Station and CAT & Genny service location.
• HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• CSCS card is mandatory.
• BPSS security clearance is required.

• Assist daily setting out, topographic checks and site surveying.
• Support QA processes, ITPs, non-conformances and site diaries.

Contract Rate: £200 - £250 per day (CIS / LTD / Outside IR35)

Project Overview

We are seeking a Junior Site Engineer to join a long-term RAF civil engineering project based near Thetford, Norfolk. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious junior or assistant engineer to gain hands-on experience across heavy groundworks, deep drainage, pavement, and structural civils packages within a secure environment.

Reporting

Reporting to the Senior Engineer/Agent, you will support daily setting out, quality assurance (QA), and site record-keeping, playing an integral role in keeping the engineering team aligned with safety and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting Out & Surveying: Assist with daily setting out, topographical checks, and site surveying using modern GPS and Total Station equipment.
• Quality Assurance (QA): Assist in compiling Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), tracking non-conformances, and maintaining accurate digital site diaries.
• Permits & Service Avoidance: Help prepare Permits to Dig, conducting service checks using CAT & Genny equipment.
• Sub-Contractor & Site Liaison: Support front-line site supervision, assisting in monitoring trade gangs and daily progress outputs.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: 1-2+ years of hands-on experience as a Junior or Assistant Engineer on UK civil engineering, groundworks, or infrastructure schemes.
• Technical Skills: Basic to intermediate proficiency with GPS/Total Station instruments and CAT & Genny service location.
• Qualifications: HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
• Mandatory Tickets: Valid CSCS Card.
• Security: Due to the site location, candidates must be eligible for standard baseline security clearance (BPSS).
