Job Opportunity: Junior Scientist at Carcinotech

Our client, Carcinotech, based at the Easter Bush University of Edinburgh Campus, is seeking a dynamic and delivery-focused Junior Scientist to join their laboratory team on a permanent basis. This role is vital to supporting the company's growth, involving responsibilities such as maintaining cell cultures, assisting with bioprinting, and performing endpoint assays across various cancer types. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential in this fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform in-house assays according to project specifications, including assessment of viability, cytotoxicity, anti-proliferative, or cytokine release assays using kits like ELISAs.
• Prepare RNA samples for qPCR or RNA sequencing.
• Conduct routine cell thawing, isolation, maintenance, and cryopreservation, ensuring aseptic techniques.
• Log and receive samples appropriately.
• Raise non-conformances when identified.
• Monitor and maintain lab fridges and freezers, defrosting as needed.
• Order and stock lab consumables according to project needs.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities following SOPs.
• Process lab coats for laundry.
• Maintain confidentiality of all client and patient information.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety policies.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 1 year experience with 3D cell culture or equivalent complex in vitro models.
• Adept at sterile cell culture and executing commercial assay protocols.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt under pressure.
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• Experience in regulated environments (GMP/GLP) and handling primary patient material.
• Experience with Electronic Lab Notebook systems like Benchling.
