Job summary

The Government Digital Service (GDS) is the digital centre of government. As a Junior Interaction Designer you’ll join the GOV.UK Web team, working with researchers and developers to deliver user centred public services at scale.

You’ll support design activities, map user journeys, and contribute to a joined-up experience across government, in multidisciplinary teams embracing agile ways of working. Manchester presence and public service impact at national scale.

Qualifications

• Show aptitude for design through work, study, volunteering, or projects and demonstrate accessible, inclusive outcomes.
• Interest in making effective decisions with qualitative user research and quantitative data.
• Have awareness of multidisciplinary, agile environments and can adapt to changes in requirements, priorities or user needs, with support.
• Enjoy turning ideas into tangible sketches, diagrams, prototypes, journey maps, layouts or visual designs, and understand how these can be used to explore and test ideas with users.
• Design collaboratively and in the open, and engage with people in workshops or co-design activities.
• Understand the importance of inclusive, equitable, accessible and sustainable public services.

Responsibilities

• Support designers, researchers and product managers to understand user needs.
• Assist in stakeholder alignment workshops with designers and PMs.
• Map user journey flows for internal stakeholders and identify patterns.
• Help drive design direction and contribute to product roadmaps with delivery teams.
• Share design output with the internal design community for a joined-up experience.
• Contribute to developing products and services as part of a multidisciplinary team.
