Band: C

Salary: £35,200 - £41,167 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract type: Permanent full-time role. The working pattern will be varied according to the orchestra schedule.

Location: Office Base is Glasgow.

Job Introduction

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBCSSO) seeks a dedicated Junior Production Manager to oversee staging, logistics, and technical requirements for performances, broadcasts, and recordings. The role involves coordinating events at City Halls, outside broadcasts, and international tours, working closely with radio and production teams. The role also involves leading health & safety efforts, noise monitoring, and mitigation.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Plan, manage, and supervise staging, logistics, and technical aspects for performances and recordings at various venues, collaborating with radio and production teams.
  2. Create stage plans using Viso software in coordination with the radio production team.
  3. Lay the stage and supervise truck load-ins and load-outs with freelance crew.
  4. Ensure all activities comply with BBC safety standards, including noise awareness and safety protocols.
  5. Participate in planning meetings to advise and collaborate on schedules and technical arrangements.
  6. Coordinate with Glasgow Life, freelancers, and other stakeholders for smooth event execution locally and internationally.
  7. Manage and book freelancers effectively.
  8. Supervise noise monitoring using Hydrock systems and Casella meters.
  9. Organize instrument and backline hires with producers and percussion sections.
  10. Lead health and safety initiatives across venues.
  11. Manage venue and instrument stores.
  12. Organize truck bookings and maintain good relationships with transport providers.
Candidate Requirements
  • Understanding of orchestra layouts and instruments.
  • Strong planning and IT skills, with a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to influence, lead, and communicate diplomatically.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of health & safety practices.
  • Experience and confidence in directing and supervising staff and freelancers.
