Salary: £35,200 - £41,167 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract type: Permanent full-time role. The working pattern will be varied according to the orchestra schedule.

Location: Office Base is Glasgow.

Job Introduction

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBCSSO) seeks a dedicated and experienced Junior Production Manager to oversee all staging, logistical, and technical requirements for performances, broadcasts, and recordings. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth execution at City Halls, outside broadcasts, and foreign tours, collaborating with radio and production teams. The role also leads on H&S, noise monitoring, and mitigations.

Main Responsibilities
  • Planning, managing, and supervising all staging, logistical, and technical requirements for performances and recordings at City Halls, outside broadcasts, and foreign tours, in collaboration with radio and production teams.
  • Producing stage plans with Visio software alongside the radio production team.
  • Lay the stage and supervise truck load-ins and load-outs with freelance crew.
  • Ensure all activities adhere to BBC safety standards, including noise awareness and safety practices.
  • Attend planning meetings to advise, collaborate, and provide solutions affecting rehearsals, performances, recordings, or transmissions.
  • Work with Glasgow Life, freelancers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth event operations at City Halls and beyond.
  • Book and manage freelancers effectively.
  • Supervise noise monitoring using Hydrock system and Casella meters.
  • Organize hire of instruments and backline with producers and percussion section.
  • Lead health and safety efforts across venues.
  • Manage venue and instrument stores.
  • Coordinate truck bookings and maintain good relationships with transport providers.
Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of orchestra layouts and musical instruments.
  • Excellent planning and IT skills, with a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to influence, lead, and communicate diplomatically.
  • Teamwork skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Awareness of health and safety regulations.
  • Experience and confidence in giving directions and managing logistics.
