Job summary

Oxford Product Design (OPD) invites a junior product design engineer to join our Harwell studio. You will contribute to the design and development of innovative products, applying mechanical engineering principles and first‑principles thinking to deliver technically robust solutions.

You will create 3D CAD models and drawings in SolidWorks, support prototype builds and testing, and work within multidisciplinary teams across client projects.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Design Engineering, or related discipline.
• 2–3 years of product development experience, preferably in consultancy.
• Hands-on engineering experience through projects, prototyping, testing, or workshop activities.
• Use of AI tools in engineering design or analysis.

Responsibilities

• Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop robust product designs.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings, and documentation using SolidWorks.
• Support prototype builds, testing, and design verification activities.
• Design for manufacture considerations including materials and processes.
• Prepare technical reports and design documentation for stakeholders.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across client projects.
• Participate in hands-on engineering activities such as prototype assembly and validation.
