Main purpose of the role:

AYBL is seeking a highly skilled and creative Junior Menswear Designer to join our in-house Design Team. In this exciting role, you will play a pivotal part in supporting the team as we continue to design and develop cutting-edge products that align with our brand’s vision and cater to the ever-evolving needs of our customers. You will work closely alongside the Senior Designer/Menswear Designer, assisting with the design process from concept to creation.

As a Junior Menswear Designer, your responsibilities will include researching and identifying key trends, colour palettes, graphics/prints, fabrics, and silhouettes to inspire and shape each season's collections. Additionally, you will take ownership of the organisational and administrative aspects of the design department, ensuring the smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of the team.

This role offers an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced and creative environment, where your passion for design will be fostered, and your ideas will have a direct impact on the products we bring to market.

  • Support the design team in producing mood boards and sketches/designs in line with our brand image and customer needs including patterns and graphic designs.
  • Support in producing monthly graphic print briefs, highlighting key techniques and colours to effectively build out our graphic t-shirt and hoodie product programmes.
  • Assist the design team in creating clear and in-depth print packs and tech packs, advising suppliers on direction, construction and key details to ensure a high sampling hit rate is achieved.
  • Assist the design team in the sourcing of fabrics and trims for upcoming design seasons.
  • Maintain and update sample progress trackers on the current design season, communicating with suppliers on sample due dates and any delays.
  • Produce and update monthly launch range plans to communicate upcoming product launches to the wider teams.
  • Take on full responsibility for the organisation and maintenance of the design department including all development samples, PP’s, gold seals, photoshoot samples, bulk approvals, fabrics etc.
  • Organise and coordinate supplier parcels on a weekly basis.
  • And any other duties required by your manager.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar menswear design role, through placements/internships.
  • Degree in Fashion Design or similar
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of pattern cutting, grading and garment construction
  • Ability to CAD and a competent user of Adobe creative suites (Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Excellent written English and verbal communication skills
  • Strong creative skills and understanding of brand guidelines
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Ability to deal with constructive feedback on designs
  • Passionate about making a difference
  • Good organisational and planning skills
  • Interest in the fitness industry would be advantageous

35 working hours per week with 1 hour lunch break

Location

Our home is located in Redditch, South Birmingham, with easy access routes to the M5/M42, a 20-minute walk to the train station, as well as many bus routes. Not forgetting Arrow Valley Lake which is a stone’s throw away and a beautiful spot to get those steps in or enjoy your lunch with a view.
