Job summary

Gold Group Limited is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our defence-focused team in Rugeley, Staffordshire. You will work with experienced engineers on design, development, testing and delivery of complex systems, with exposure across multiple engineering disciplines.

You will develop hands-on experience, contribute to documentation, and grow within a supportive engineering environment offering mentoring and clear progression paths.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or completed apprenticeship.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to learn across multiple disciplines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using CAD tools preferred (SolidWorks).

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support across programmes and projects.
  • Produce method statements and test specifications.
  • Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and change management.
  • Update engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Project teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, meetings and technical discussions.
  • Assist in testing, assembly and on-site activities.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records per procedures and standards.

Job Title: Junior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Rugeley, Staffordshire

Are you a mechanically minded engineer? Completed an engineering apprenticeship or hold a Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification? this is an opportunity to develop your career while working on cutting-edge defence technology.

You will join a collaborative engineering team supporting the design, development, testing and delivery of complex defence systems. This role offers exposure across multiple engineering disciplines, giving you the chance to build technical knowledge, gain hands-on experience and shape your long-term career within the business.

What you will be doing

Working alongside experienced engineers and project teams, you will provide engineering support across a variety of exciting programmes and projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting mechanical engineers with design, development and engineering activities.
  • Producing engineering documentation including method statements and test specifications.
  • Implementing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and supporting engineering change management.
  • Updating and maintaining engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Liaising with Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management and other business functions to help progress engineering actions.
  • Participating in design reviews, project meetings and technical discussions.
  • Supporting testing, assembly and occasional on-site engineering activities.
  • Maintaining accurate engineering records in line with company procedures and quality standards.
What we're looking for
Essential
  • Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
  • A mechanical engineering background with a genuine interest in developing your technical career.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with engineers and wider business teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with a methodical approach to engineering tasks.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn across multiple engineering disciplines.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Exposure to engineering drawings, design changes or configuration management.
  • Experience supporting the design, assembly or testing of complex engineering products.
  • Interest in progressing into a specialist engineering or leadership role.
