Company: Ensigna Construction Ltd
Position: Junior Estimator
Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience
Employment Type: Full-time
Ensigna Construction is looking for a Junior Estimator to join our pre-construction team.
This is an opportunity for someone at the early stages of their estimating career, or someone with relevant construction experience who would like to move into estimating.
Working alongside experienced members of our estimating, commercial and operational teams, you will support the preparation of competitive tenders for a varied portfolio of construction and refurbishment projects.
The role is intended to develop as your knowledge and experience grow, providing a clear pathway towards becoming an Estimator.
You will assist with all aspects of the tender and estimating process, including:
Reviewing tender enquiries, drawings, specifications, schedules and other contract information.
Assisting with the preparation of accurate cost estimates and tender submissions.
Undertaking measurements and quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
Preparing and issuing subcontractor and supplier enquiries.
Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations.
Reviewing and comparing quotations to ensure scope and specification requirements have been covered.
Assisting with the preparation of tender comparison and analysis information.
Identifying potential gaps, risks and opportunities within tender information.
Supporting the assessment of preliminaries, labour, materials and subcontract costs.
Assisting with value engineering and alternative solutions where appropriate.
Maintaining accurate tender records and supporting documentation.
Working with the wider pre-construction, commercial and delivery teams to understand programme, methodology, logistics and project-specific requirements.
Attending site visits and tender meetings where required.
Assisting with tender handovers following successful contract awards.
Developing an understanding of the complete estimating process from initial enquiry through to contract award.
Previous estimating experience would be beneficial but is not essential. Construction experience and a genuine willingness to develop a career in estimating are equally important.
The successful candidate should be:
Numerate, organised and commercially minded.
Confident working with figures and analysing information.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Able to read and understand construction drawings, or willing to develop this skill.
Accurate and detail-focused.
Able to manage priorities and work to tender deadlines.
A confident communicator who is comfortable dealing with suppliers, subcontractors and colleagues.
Willing to ask questions and learn from experienced members of the team.
Interested in developing a long-term career within construction and estimating.
We are open-minded about your route into the position. Suitable candidates may have:
Previous experience within construction, estimating, quantity surveying, procurement or commercial administration;
Experience working for a main contractor or subcontractor;
A construction-related qualification; or
Transferable skills and a strong interest in developing within construction estimating.
Relevant construction qualifications are advantageous but are not essential for the right candidate.
This is a developmental position and you will receive practical, hands-on experience across live tenders and projects.
As your knowledge and capability develop, you will be encouraged to take increasing responsibility for elements of the estimating process, with progression towards:
Junior Estimator → Estimator → Senior Estimator → Estimating / Pre-Construction Management
Salary negotiable depending on experience.
Hands-on training and support from experienced construction professionals.
Exposure to a varied portfolio of construction projects.
Genuine opportunity for career progression.
The opportunity to develop both technical and commercial construction knowledge.
A professional, supportive and collaborative working environment.
Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.
Ensigna Construction is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
