Job summary

UniHomes in Sheffield is seeking a Junior Data Analyst to join the Data team on a temporary basis (June–Sept 2026) to progress analytical projects that improve how we understand utility consumption, pricing assumptions and property-level performance.

This hands-on role uses pre-prepared datasets with senior validation of outputs. You’ll focus on clear, well-documented analysis without needing the full data stack, with weekly check-ins and structured briefs guiding your work.

Qualifications

  • Recent graduate or penultimate/final-year undergraduate in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Physics, Engineering).
  • Confident with Excel or Sheets; exposure to SQL or Python is desirable but not essential.
  • Comfortable testing relationships in structured data and presenting findings clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and a habit of documenting what you’ve done and why.
  • Curious, organised and willing to ask questions when something doesn’t look right.
  • Interest in utilities, property, energy data or the student housing sector is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of a defined set of analytical projects, including weather-to-usage correlation and consumption assumptions.
  • Work with pre-prepared datasets provided by the senior team — no direct work in Snowflake, Salesforce, Tableau or dbt required.
  • Test relationships in the data and produce clear, evidenced outputs — segmented where data allows by group size, EPC, heating type, location and property type.
  • Document methodology, assumptions, sample sizes, exclusions and limitations for every piece of analysis.
  • Label outputs clearly as exploratory, validated, recommendation or operational, and route them to the named senior reviewer before use.
  • Attend weekly check-ins to share progress, raise data issues and surface early findings.
  • Save working files and methodology notes so analysis can be picked up later by the permanent team.
  • Provide clear, written hand-over of completed projects at the end of the contract.
