Job summary

NES Fircroft are recruiting a Junior Cost Controller for our energy client, based in the Middlesbrough office. This is a six-month inside IR35 contract, working 37.5 hours per week from Monday to Friday, with potential for extension.

The role supports project management through cost estimation, budgeting, and contract financial reporting across professional services and supply contracts. Occasional travel within Teesside and to Inverness may be required.

Job description

NES Fircroft are currently recruiting a Junior Cost Controller on behalf of our Energy client, based in the Middlesbrough office. This is an initial 6 month inside IR35 contract - with potential for extension. 37.5hrs per week, Mon-Fri.

Occasional travel may be required within the Teesside area and to the site in Inverness.

Role overview:

The Junior Cost Controller will support Project/Package Management with the management and control of contract costs, ensuring contracts stay within budget and meet quality standards by estimating costs to completion, supporting contract/commercial management, and overseeing financial reporting, for various professional services and/or supply contracts.

The Junior Cost Controller shall comply with Client’s confidentiality and information security policies at all times and be aware of health and safety in your area of responsibility in line with the relevant section(s) of the relevant Health and Safety Policy and regulations.

Key Responsibilities and areas of Development include:

Cost Estimation and Control/Management:

• Estimating quantities and costs of materials, labour, and time.
• Developing cost plans and budgets.
• Monitoring costs and identifying potential cost overruns, including the tracking of variations/changes to the contract that may affect costs.
• Advising on cost-cutting measures and value engineering.
• Analyzing repair/maintenance or re-work costs.
• Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.

Contract Management/Commercial support:

• Overseeing and valuing subcontractors' work for payments and support on payment/invoice management.
• Support on managing risk and ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards.
• Assessing the quality of work and identifying potential issues.
• Support on ensuring the subcontractors/suppliers have the necessary skills and experience for their works.
• Support on change management, contractual notices, claims and document control.

Reporting and Analysis:

• Preparing cost and progress reports.
• Analysing project outcomes and providing budget/progress reports.
• Identifying and reporting variations and changes to the contract in a timely manner.

Skills and Qualifications:

• A relevant degree or qualification in cost control or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Data analysis
• Meticulous/Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy within reporting
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of construction methods and materials.
• Understanding of construction contracts and legal matters.
• Capacity to prioritise work and interface with relevant stakeholders for the collection of information.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Experience of the Junior Cost Controller:

• Demonstratable infrastructure, engineering and / or construction experience.
• Someunderstanding of day-to-day commercial administration in the Engineering and Construction industries.
• Experience in supporting large-scale projects and change initiatives using appropriate methodologies.
• Some experience of Professional Services/Supply contracts would be beneficial.
