Job summary
We are actively looking for a Junior Clinical Fellow (CT1/2/3 equivalent) in Plastic Surgery for a 6 month fixed term period from August 2025 at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
The post holder will join the SHOs in the Plastic and Reconstructive Service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust based at St Mary's Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital. The post holder will get the opportunity to learn Plastic Surgery management and skills on the ward, in theatre and in clinics.
The post holder will join the out-of-hours rota on the Charing Cross site covering Orthoplastics or on the St Mary's Hospital site covering Plastics.
The principle workload of the Plastic Surgery Service is cancer reconstruction; breast, head & neck, skin cancer; extremity trauma and elective hand surgery. The Department specialises in microsurgical reconstruction; head and neck reconstruction and breast reconstruction on the Charing Cross site; extremity reconstruction, providing Plastic Surgery services to the Trust's Level 1 Major Trauma Centre at St Mary's Hospital. The Department is responsible for the care of general Plastic Surgery patients with an emphasis on tertiary referrals and undertakes between 200-250 free flaps per year, manages approximately 150 open lower limb fractures and 30 complex upper limb injuries each year and provides a hand trauma service for injuries attending the St Mary's site.
Main duties of the jobRole Summary
The post-holder will be one of 15 posts of CT1-3 level equivalent trainees in the Department. On the standard days of the rota the post-holder will work with the Plastic Surgery teams at either St Mary's or Charing Cross Hospitals and will be primarily responsible for the ward patients. The post-holder will see all patients admitted to the Plastic Surgery Unit and perform a daily ward round with the Specialist Registrars and other resident doctors. The post-holder will see Plastic Surgery emergencies in the Emergency Departments of the Trust Hospitals and patients referred to the service from other specialties in the Trust. There is opportunity to attend outpatient clinics, local and general anaesthetic operating lists. Teaching and supervision is provided for all the Plastic Surgery residents.
The out-of-hours on call work will be either at St Mary's covering Plastic Surgery patients or at Charing Cross covering Orthopaedics and Plastics.
Detailed protocols for clinical management are available in the Department to which the post-holder is expected to adhere at all times.
Educational objectives:
To develop the post-holder's clinical and surgical expertise in Plastic Surgery. This is not a recognized training post; however, the post holder will have Consultant-led education and supervision and will be supported in their professional development.

The majority of the elective work is carried out at The Charing Cross site and the Department also supports the Major Trauma Unit at St Marys.
